EcoThailand (นิเวศวิถี) is a not for profit NGO, with Foundation status (Thai Registration 9/2560, มูลนิธินิเวศวิถี) based in Surat Thani province, Thailand.
Our objectives are focused on environmental education, awareness, communication, co-ordination and practical improvement of the tidal beach front and inland waterways of both the mainland province and the islands of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
We are active in the key environmental areas of education and involvement (schools, local people, local businesses and visitors to the area), and also interact with key government departments, other local volunteer groups, and related NGO organizations, all of whom can have a major beneficial impact on the local environment.
Our group consists of an international team, led by thai nationals, which evolved from a prior 5 year Thai government initiative (CBFCM - Community based forest and catchment management through an ecosystem approach) which had several notable ecological and environmental successes in Surat Thani province, Thailand. With the completion of the project a number of the involved parties wished to build on these successes and continue the work to maintain a clean and biodiverse environment - through direct action, interaction with local communities and eco education of school children and adults. Almost uniquely in this area, we integrate and co-ordinate efforts of both local thai individuals, communities, government agencies and interested foreign parties and visitors to Thailand. Our Key Stakeholders and Partners include Walking Street Team and Shake Hand Group Phangan.
Funding for our activities is sought via donation from benefactors, sponsorship from local, national and international businesses, and from government and international grant agencies and is exclusively directed towards the primary objectives of the group - improvement of the local environment and ecosystems and increasing educational awareness.
